Blood on Our Hands
04:18
|
|||
I just can't hide all the evil that I've done
The demon I am with long and unclean claws
But I tried so hard for you, but red wouldn't wash away
Now I'm drifting out to sea in the bloody sanctity of my good name
Tonight,
Only one of us walks away with blood on our hands
Tonight, baby
As vicious as I've been, I know it hurts to love me
My tongue is so sharp and I'm never prone to trusting
But I tried so hard with you, but you're all just the same
I would feed my heart to you if you'd just stop screaming
Tonight,
Only one of us walks away with blood on our hands
Tonight, baby
And tomorrow comes
and it always seems so vain
To bury all your love and your sorrow
in the same shallow grave
There's nothing here in the dark
to match your artless violence
there's not a single beat from my heart
to ever break this silence
In the light of every shot that I fired
I'd see the dangers of the company I keep
I'd turn my love into a funeral pyre
and leave no one here to burn with me

Show me a Sign
06:31
|
|||
There will be blood, so much they'll start a religion to both of us
There will be blood, so much that God will envy us
I'd travel the darkness to get through to you
I'd descend the abyss to unearth the girl that I knew
I'd sit there in silence to hear you breathe again
Alone in the ruins with your head in my hands
If you're alive, show me a sign
What did I do to something like you?
You were mine, you were all that I wanted
What did I do to something like you?
There will be blood, so much they'll start a religion to both of us
There will be blood, so much that God will envy us
I'd trace the blue of your lips with my calloused finger tips
I'd hold your mouth open to let the air back in
I'd feed you my heart, you've always desired the taste
And all of my scars will finally spell your name
I just wanted to love you without the need for proof
for the sun to shine down and pale in the light of you
But I had gone so far with so many bodies on my back
and no helping hand to dig the hole
when you get to the bottom and you look back at the top
you just don't want to crawl out all alone
But I won't cry down here tonight
Because I've always known the truth
That I can't survive forever in the light
There will be blood for you

The Devil You Never Name
05:03
|
|||
This is not poetry because you're not that pretty
This is a sleepless night in some starless city
If I had a weapon, I would name it for you
and I'd cut every demon out till I was left with the girl that I knew
I'd take your heart in my hands and get drunk on your love
I'd take you into my home and hide you from God up above
I am your pitch black shadow, the Devil that you never name
I am the ghost, the body, the blood
and the lies you memorize to keep you from feeling insane
This is not honesty because you know what that gets
I gave you your chance to leave, but you came to my bed
I had a motive, I had my eye on you
and I take so much time to bury the truth
But you never understand why push comes to shove
I'd take you into my home and I'd hide you from God up above
For ten thousand ships you've been shaking your hips
the violence is playing your song
At the ramparts we watched the rockets they launched
in the trenches they're singing along
When you fell down to earth baby did it hurt
to break your faith out on the stage
You're missing some parts to your poor broken heart
Do you know my infamous name?
I am your pitch black shadow, the Devil that you never name
I am the ghost, the body, the blood
and the lies you memorize to keep you from feeling insane

The Ex-Patriot
05:57
|
|||
My only crime was that I should fall for you
with your little white lies, the stars in your skies
and those crimson lips on you
I wait by my radio at the end of a burning fuse
I'd die to hear some word from the outside world
How many battles did I lose
I'd take you poor or tired, baby
Show me your body of lies and I'll show you mine
The only war that I've fought lately
was over a lover I lost, an ex-patriot
I sleep to the sound of bombs burst in air
America you can light it up but can you judge us just as fair?
I died on the radio with the hole in my heart for a change
and the bullet shells were a hero's welcome
and all my allegiance drains.
don't ever run, don't let them take you alive
fire your gun by the dawn's early light...
