This is not poetry because you're not that pretty
This is a sleepless night in some starless city
If I had a weapon, I would name it for you
and I'd cut every demon out till I was left with the girl that I knew
I'd take your heart in my hands and get drunk on your love
I'd take you into my home and hide you from God up above
I am your pitch black shadow, the Devil that you never name
I am the ghost, the body, the blood
and the lies you memorize to keep you from feeling insane
This is not honesty because you know what that gets
I gave you your chance to leave, but you came to my bed
I had a motive, I had my eye on you
and I take so much time to bury the truth
But you never understand why push comes to shove
I'd take you into my home and I'd hide you from God up above
For ten thousand ships you've been shaking your hips
the violence is playing your song
At the ramparts we watched the rockets they launched
in the trenches they're singing along
When you fell down to earth baby did it hurt
to break your faith out on the stage
You're missing some parts to your poor broken heart
Do you know my infamous name?
I am your pitch black shadow, the Devil that you never name
I am the ghost, the body, the blood
and the lies you memorize to keep you from feeling insane
